Why it exists
Running a syndicate is unpaid admin — until it goes wrong
Most syndicates run on a spreadsheet, a group chat and one person’s memory. That works right up to the week it doesn’t.
“Has Dave paid?”
Contributions arrive by bank transfer, in cash, late, in advance, and sometimes not at all. Keeping fourteen running balances in a spreadsheet is a job, and it is a job that falls on one person every single week.
“What did we win?”
A small win has to be divided, credited and explained to everybody. Do it in your head at the pub and someone will remember the number differently a fortnight later.
“How do we know?”
Members are trusting one person with their money and their word about a ticket they have never seen. Most of the time that trust is well placed. The problem is that it is never demonstrated.

It is built around one idea: the record is the truth, and everyone should be able to see it.
Members and balances
Every member has two balances — what they have put in, and what they have won. Both add up to a total, and every movement is recorded with a reason and the name of whoever made it.
Draws, however you play
Do the same numbers play every draw? Upload that ticket once — whether it is a standing Lotto subscription or the same ticket you buy each week. Add the details and every draw is automatically generated from it. No re-entering the same numbers each draw. Playing a different ticket for a draw? You can manually add that one yourself.
Winnings split automatically
Enter what the ticket won. The app divides it evenly across the members who were on that draw and credits it, to whichever balance your syndicate uses. No arithmetic, no rounding arguments.
Everyone told, every time
Members are emailed when they go into a draw — with the ticket photo, their share of the cost and their own balances — and again when the result is in, with what the ticket won and their share of it. They never have to ask.
Bank statement, one sitting
Payments go in on a single repeating form — a session of statement entry is one screen and one save, not twenty separate edits.
Bonus tickets handled
Won a bonus ticket? Photograph it and upload it with your results, and a draw entry is created automatically on your next draw day. Bonus draws never charge anyone: those tickets were won, not bought.
A trail that cannot be quietly edited
The ledger is append-only. Corrections are new entries, not overwrites, so the history of the money is always there to be read back — including by you, months later.
Members never have to log in
There are no accounts for members to forget the password to. Everything they need arrives in an email. Only the person running the syndicate signs in.

The syndicate at a glance
Who is active, what is in the pot, what the next draw costs and what the last one did. The dashboard also warns you about the things that would quietly stop a draw being generated — no draw days set, no active members, or a saved subscription with no ticket photo on it.
You stop wondering whether something has been missed, because the app tells you when it has.
Every movement, with a reason attached
Each member has a statement: every share taken, every payment received, every win credited, in order, with a running total. Nothing is edited away — a correction is a new line, so the history stays readable.
If a member asks where their money went, the answer is a page, not an argument.
The result, in everyone’s inbox
When you enter a result, every member with an email address gets it: what the ticket won, what their share was, and which balance it went on.
The email shows the member their own figures and how the total was split — so the fairness is demonstrable without handing everybody a list of who else is in the syndicate.

Three steps, then it runs itself
Set up the syndicate
Name it, tick the draw days it plays, and set the ticket cost. If the same numbers play every draw — a standing Lotto subscription, or a ticket you buy by hand — upload a copy once and every draw is generated from it. Play a different ticket for a draw and you add that one yourself.
Add your members
Name, email, and their opening balance if they are carrying one over. Opening balances are recorded as entries, so the audit trail starts from a known figure.
Get on with your life
With a saved ticket, draw days look after themselves. Either way you enter the result and record payments as they land, and the splitting, the balances and the emails happen without you.
Transparency
The record protects the organiser too
Syndicate disputes reach court more often than most people playing in one would guess — and when they do, what decides them is documentation: who was in, who had paid, and what was agreed.
The organiser is usually the one holding the ticket, which means they are usually the one who has to prove they behaved properly. An honest organiser with no records is in a far worse position than an honest organiser with a complete, timestamped trail that every member has been reading by email all along.
That trail is the point of this app. It is not there because we assume the person running your syndicate is dishonest. It is there because it is the thing that shows they weren’t.
Who was actually in?
Members join and leave. A draw records the members who were on it at the time, so the question is answered by the record rather than by recollection.
Was the split fair?
Every win is divided evenly by the app across the members on that draw, and the division is stated in the email each of them receives.
Was anything changed later?
The ledger only ever grows. Entries are added, never rewritten, so the sequence of events stays intact.

The things people ask first
Is Lotto Syndicate Manager connected to Lotto NZ?
No. It is independent software built by Lighthouse IT, and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or associated with Lotto New Zealand. References to “Lotto” identify the game a syndicate plays, nothing more.
Does the app buy tickets or hold the syndicate’s money?
No. It buys no tickets, receives no contributions and pays out no winnings. Buying the ticket and handling the money stay with whoever runs the syndicate. The app records what they enter and shows that record to everyone.
Do syndicate members need to create an account?
No. Members never log in and have no password to forget. Only the organiser signs in. Everyone else is emailed when they go into a draw — that message carries their own balances — and again when the result is in.
Do we need a Lotto subscription to use it?
No. If the same numbers play every draw you upload that ticket once — a standing Lotto subscription and a line you buy by hand each week work identically here — and every draw is generated from it. If your syndicate plays a different ticket each time, you add each draw yourself and everything after that is the same.
How are winnings split between members?
Evenly, across the members who were on that particular draw rather than whoever is in the syndicate today. The app calculates it when the result is entered, credits each member, and states the division in the email each of them receives.
What happens when someone joins or leaves mid-run?
Each draw records the members who were active at the moment it was created, so a ticket belongs to the people who were actually in it that day. Joiners and leavers do not disturb the history.
What does it cost to run a Lotto syndicate on it?
NZ$3 per active member per year, free for the first 3 months. A twelve-member syndicate pays NZ$36 a year. No card is needed to start.
